Itinerary
A proper 10-day itinerary of the Char Dham Yatra. We are covering the four sacred shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, and Rishikesh or Haridwar also. Enjoy comfortable travel, spiritual experiences, scenic mountain drives, and memorable darshan with the Aao Chalo team.
Upon arrival at Haridwar Railway Station, the bus stand, or your hotel, you will be greeted by our driver. Proceed towards Barkot via Mussoorie.
En route, visit Mussoorie Lake and the famous Kempty Falls. After sightseeing, continue your drive to Barkot.
On arrival, check in to your pre-booked hotel. Overnight stay in Barkot.
About Mussoorie: Popularly known as the “Queen of Hills,” Mussoorie is a scenic hill station with historical significance dating back to the early 19th century.
Distance: 36 km Drive & 6 km Trek (One Side)
Early morning after breakfast, drive to Jankichatti/Phoolchatti. From here, begin the 6 km trek to Yamunotri Temple (pony or doli available at own cost).
On arrival, take a holy dip in Jamunabai Kund and perform darshan of Goddess Yamuna at the sacred temple.
Pilgrims also visit Surya Kund and offer prayers at Divya Shila before entering the temple.
After darshan, trek back to Jankichatti and drive to Barkot. Overnight stay in Barkot.
About Yamunotri: The temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, was built in the 19th century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur and holds great religious significance.
Distance: 100 km / 4 hrs drive
After breakfast, drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi. En route, visit Shivgufa, a sacred cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
On arrival in Uttarkashi, visit the renowned Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the oldest Shiva temples in North India.
Also visit the nearby Shakti Temple, famous for its massive Trishul (trident).
Later, check in to your hotel. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.
About Uttarkashi: Situated on the banks of the River Bhagirathi, Uttarkashi is a prominent pilgrimage town often referred to as the “Kashi of the North,” known for its spiritual significance and ancient temples.
Distance: 100 km (3–4 hrs each side)
Early morning after breakfast, drive to Gangotri Temple, one of the sacred Char Dham sites.
En route, stop at Gangnani to take a holy dip in the Garam Kund (hot water spring).
Continue through the scenic Harsil Valley, known for its deodar forests, snow-capped peaks, and apple orchards.
On arrival at Gangotri, take a holy dip in the River Bhagirathi and perform pooja and darshan at the temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga.
After some time at leisure, drive back to Uttarkashi. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.
About Gangotri: Built in the 18th century by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa, the temple marks the origin of the sacred River Ganga and holds immense religious importance in the Char Dham Yatra.
Distance: 220 km / 8–9 hrs drive
After breakfast, drive to Guptkashi via Moolgarh and Lambgaon. Enjoy a scenic journey along the beautiful Mandakini River, which originates from Kedarnath.
Upon arrival, visit the sacred Ardh Narishwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva in his half-male, half-female form symbolizing Shiva and Parvati. Later, check in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Guptkashi.
About Guptkashi: Meaning “Hidden Kashi,” this holy town holds great mythological importance. It is believed that Lord Shiva first appeared here while evading the Pandavas before manifesting at Kedarnath. During winter, the Kedarnath priests reside in this region.
Distance: 30 km by road + 16 km trek (one way)
Early morning after breakfast, proceed towards Kedarnath Temple.
Option 1: By Trek
Drive to Sonprayag. From there, take a local jeep to Gaurikund, the starting point of the 16 km trek to Kedarnath.
After darshan, overnight stay at Kedarnath.
Option 2: By Helicopter
Transfer to your pre-booked helipad for helicopter service to Kedarnath. After darshan, return by helicopter and transfer back to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Important Note:
Due to heavy traffic and parking restrictions at Sonprayag, vehicles may be parked at a distance.
Guests are requested to remain patient and coordinate with the driver at the designated pickup point.
Distance: 30 km by road + 16 km trek
Early morning, attend the morning pooja and darshan at Kedarnath Temple
After breakfast, check out and begin your return trek to Gaurikund. From there, transfer by road to Guptkashi. Overnight stay in Guptkashi.
About Kedarnath:
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath is a highly revered shrine nestled in the Himalayas.
According to legend, Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of a bull while evading the Pandavas.
It is also part of the sacred Panch Kedar circuit.
Distance: 220 km / 9–10 hrs
After breakfast, drive to Badrinath Temple, one of the sacred Char Dham sites. On arrival, check in to the hotel.
Pilgrims take a holy dip in Tapt Kund before proceeding for darshan of Lord Badrivishal.
In the evening, attend the temple Aarti ceremony.
Visit Brahma Kapal, an important site for Pind Daan rituals.
If time permits, explore nearby attractions within 3 km, such as Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, Bhim Pul, and Charan Paduka. Overnight stay at Badrinath.
About Badrinath:
Situated between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges with Neelkanth Peak in the backdrop, Badrinath is one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations dedicated to Lord Vishnu
Distance: 160 km / 7 hrs
After breakfast, drive to Rudraprayag via Joshimath.
At Joshimath, visit the sacred Narsingh Temple, the winter seat of Lord Badrinath.
After darshan, continue the scenic drive to Rudraprayag.
Rudraprayag is one of the Panch Prayag and marks the holy confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers.
Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Rudraprayag.
Distance: 165 km / 5–6 hrs
After breakfast, drive to Haridwar via Rishikesh.
In Rishikesh, visit popular landmarks such as Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula.
Experience the spiritual ambiance along the River Ganges.
Later, continue to Haridwar for drop-off at the railway station / hotel, marking the end of the sacred Char Dham Yatra.
